Another MailMate 2.0 Beta released
Since the release of the MailMate 2.0 beta last December, multiple betas have followed. The most recent one was released today. You’ll get them automatically if you configure it in the Software Update settings pane in MailMate.
You can review all of the changes in the betas by reading the most recent release notes. Most of the changes are bug fixes and small improvements, but there are also a few bigger items. Quite a lot of work has gone into updating the so-called network stack used by MailMate. This is still an opt-in feature and there is a known issue with regard to synchronization after sleep mode (which can some times be delayed), but this is the only way to get TLS 1.3 support if that is required (it’s rarely required by servers today, but it might be in the future). For now, it can be enabled with the following command in a Terminal window:
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmNetworkFrameworkEnabled -bool YES
This requires macOS 10.14+ to work.
Note that OAuth2 support has been added for Fastmail and Yahoo accounts. It’s enabled automatically (also for existing accounts), but it can be disabled if needed. Slightly related, it’s unfortunately possible that the OAuth2 support for Gmail might cease to work, but as the saying goes, “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there”.
It’s also worth noting that exporting data (emails/attachments) from MailMate has been improved. See the File menu and the optional toolbar menu items for exporting/copying data.
Unrelated to the beta release: Since this is a solo developer business, it might be nice to know that I’ll be on vacation for the better part of July and a few days in August. This means few or no updates, but I’ll be regularly online to deal with any critical issues.
